CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Diesel
Itâs been days now, and still no word on Cassidy. Neither Ghost and his crew nor the Latin Mafia have said a peep. Nobodyâs come forward, and itâs eating me up inside.
I try to keep my shit together at Morgan International, acting like Iâm all in, like everythingâs fine. But the truth is, my headâs not here. Every quiet moment, and there are plenty, my mind races back to Cassidy. I keep wondering if sheâs okay. If sheâs mad at me. If she knows Iâm the reason sheâs suffering right now.
I catch myself constantly checking the clock, counting the minutes until I can leave. Iâve never been a clock-watcher, and I hate it.
But Iâm just looking to escape my thoughts, even for a little while. So, instead of going home, I head straight to the clubhouse after work.
Iâm not in the mood to talk to anyone, but I canât stand being alone, either. I need to be around my brothers, even though Iâm pissed at them for how theyâve handled this Cassidy thing.
âRough day?â Trudy leans her hip against the bar, one brow cocked at me.
âThat doesnât even come close to describing it,â I grunt and accept the shot she pours into a double glass with a half-smile. âThanks.â
âNo problem. Wanna talk about it?â
I give her one short shake of my head. âNope.â
She lets out a short huff of laughter and points to a buxom woman with dark hair. âWe have some new girls if you want to fuck it out.â
âNo thanks.â
She shrugs. âToo bad. Iâll get you another,â she offers and makes her way to the end of the bar.
After two more ice-cold shots of tequila, I slow down with another shot and a cold beer, my thoughts still on Cassidy because Iâm a glutton for punishment.
âHiya, Diesel. You look like you could use a good time.â Layla presses her tits against my side, her perfume tickling my nose and her thickly lined eyes so close I can smell the beer on her breath. âI have more than a good time to show you,â she whispers softly.
A week ago, I wouldâve taken her to the back room, pushed her onto her knees, and got my rocks off, but tonight, Iâm not in the mood. âIâm good, thanks.â
âOh, come on. You look like you need to relieve some tension, and you know thatâs my specialty.â Her hand lands on my thigh, sliding up toward my cock.
I grip her wrist to stop her. âI said Iâm good.â
Heat flares in her eyes, and she licks her lips like she thinks this is a fucking game. âAnd I can make you better.â
I look at her, and my annoyance turns to anger. I know itâs not her fault Cassidy is missing, and I know Iâve fucked her a time or two, but now it makes me feel dirty. If a guy like me could ever feel dirty. âPretty sure last time I saw you I told you to stay the fuck away from
